Meet Our Community!
Introducing: Olga Tunga
Olga
was born in Kigali, Rwanda and spent her childhood in Rwanda and
Kenya, before moving to Houston. After graduating from Bellaire
High School, she moved to Denver, Colorado to attend the University of
Denver(DU) where she completed degrees in International Relations,
Political Science and Spanish in 2007.
In
late 2008, she moved back to Houston to work for the Institute of
International Education (IIE) as a Program Coordinator with the Gilman
International Scholarship Program. Acting on her interest in the
Brazilian culture, she took a capoeira class at the BAF and was hooked.
Soon after, she was attending classes regularly and also started
taking samba and Portuguese classes. Olga credits her Portuguese
classes with helping her better understand the Brazilian culture and
gain more proficiency. In 2010, Olga became a board member with
the BAF and was selected to serve as the education chair. She
has been instrumental in the organization and creation of the BAF
library, soon to be open to the community for research and information
purposes.
Olga
believes that serving the community is something that everyone should
do. Olga enjoys traveling, learning about other cultures, and playing
in the outdoors.
